You might remember that last December my good friend Jaden Michael surprised me by attending the premiere of my short film, "Early Learnings". We met when we were both 8 years old at a weeklong acting intensive at The Performing Option. Well, I was so happy that I got to return the favor and support him. Jaden's film, "Custody", premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and it was a great movie! The film stars Viola Davis and Hayden Panetierre, and Jaden plays David. All of the actors walked the red carpet for interviews before the screening, and afterwards they held a question-and-answer session with the actors and the director, James Lapine. Jaden was absolutely amazing and I was SO glad that I came to see his movie. Jaden is an amazing friend and I know that he is definitely going to be a very successful actor, so keep your eyes out for him!

Finally the first day of rehearsals arrived and I got to spend time with some of my new castmates. Our first rehearsal was just for the kids who are also playing instruments in the show, along with Nick Berninger, who is very talented and funny and plays the lead character, Dewey Finn. I received two books - one containing the script and vocal sheet music, and another with just my guitar parts. This show is going to be fun, but it's also going to be a lot of work!
First School of Rock band rehearsal with Nick (Dewey), Michael (Lawrence), Jared (Freddy), and Giada (Katie).
I received a book of sheet music I need to learn for the show - lots to work on!
Laura Luc, the wonderful director of the show, always takes great photos during rehearsals!
I had a bit of time this week to work on another vocal demo - this time a ballad. I had a quick session with my band coach Pete, and we'll see how it comes out. I need to get the last bot of "fun stuff" in before the show rehearsals start!
One of the best parts about living in New York is that you have access to so much opportunity and talent, if you know where to look. You'll see over time that I work with several different photographers regularly - I love working with all of them, because each has their own unique style; as a person who needs different kinds of photographs for different reasons, I can utilize each photographer's individual way of presenting me to suit the requirements of different castings.
Here I am shooting with photographer Lena Melnik on a studio roof. I first worked with Lena last summer, a few months after she had moved to New York, as she was recommended to my mom by my agent. Lena is a young photographer and her photos are both honest and moving. She is calm and usually very specific in what she wants from me. Lena and her partner, Nick Kholkin, shot and put together the amazing agency video for Generation which is on my modeling page. I can't wait to see how these new photos come out! Below are two photos from our first session.
