Since last spring I have been a fit model for Studio Ray, which designs sportswear for winter (like ski jackets) and summer (bathing suits). Fit modeling is a fun job: you are booked for two hours; you go in to the city, up to the designers’ floor; you try on clothes; the designers look at you, and you discuss how the clothes fit and feel. Basically, I got to eat jelly beans and chocolate while complaining about everything wrong with the clothes they had me try on. Not bad work for a kid! Then the designers mark and cut the clothes (while you’re still wearing them!), and then they send their notes and their clothes back to the factory so adjustments to the clothes can be made. When the clothes come back, I try them on again, and hopefully everything fits and is right.
The only thing is, the fit model needs to have certain measurements and be a certain size - when you grow too tall, the company needs to find a new fit model! Unfortunately, my visit to Studio Ray in early December was my last one, as I got too tall for the job, and the clothes they had fit on me over the summer no longer fit right! I was very sad to have to go, as the people were wonderful and the job was so much fun. I miss the great team at Studio Ray, but hopefully I will get another fit model job soon!
